Bex Thomlinson is the International Recruitment Specialist for the Safeguarding Resource and Support Hub, providing resourcing support by facilitating recruitment and onboarding for project staff, consultants, and employees.

Bex has over 15 years’ experience working in resourcing within the non-profit sector, however, most recently worked as a Recruitment Manager at Government Digital Services supporting internal recruitment of digital, data and technology positions within two Cabinet Office departments and providing training and guidance on recruitment best practice.

Bex has held various positions at the international development organisation, VSO, recruiting volunteers, consultants and employees for global positions making an impact in health, education and gender and social inclusion. Bex was involved in strategic change projects implementing global recruitment practices and systems. Prior to VSO Bex worked as the Vocational Recruitment Officer for CMS (The Church Mission Society), a faith-based organisation working through partners to see lasting impact for people on the margins.

Bex’s degree is in Human Resource Management and holds qualifications in careers guidance and advice and came into recruitment after working in the careers guidance sector. As a Connexions Personal Advisor, Bex worked with young people who struggled to remain in the education system. This work with young people led to a pivotal experience working with VSO as a project supervisor on the Global Xchange programme (pre-cursor to International Citizen Service – a programme previously funded by DfID) where 18 young people from UK and another country were paired up to volunteer for 3 months in the UK and a developing country. As project supervisor this required developing a network of volunteer opportunities for the team, setting up host homes and building a presence of young people volunteering in the community.

Supporting others to find their direction and listen to their passions is a theme running through all Bex’s employment and volunteering and is currently developing this by undertaking the Level 1 Introduction to Interpersonal Skills, as a way of exploring the direction of therapeutic counselling work. As a mum of two kids and trying to keep up a bit of fitness through going to a boot camp and starting to undertake a couple of triathlons a year – life can be a little busy!
