Susi joined the Programmes team at Social Development Direct in April 2022 as the Regional Lead for the Safeguarding Resource and Support Hub for Eastern Europe (RSH EE). In her current capacity as Partnerships Lead for the Safeguarding Resource and Support Hub programme, she works on new opportunities to continue and expand the programme’s work across the world, leading the production of technical and commercial proposals. Susi regularly engages with clients to secure funding in new countries, as well as supporting the localization of the programme in existing Safeguarding Hub countries.

Prior to joining the Business Development Team, she was responsible for strategic oversight of the Safeguarding Hub Eastern Europe programme, which ran for eighteen months from April 2022 to October 2023. It provided organisations and individuals responding to the war on Ukraine with the tools, guidance, support and training they needed to strengthen their safeguarding policy and practice against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Sexual Harassment. Susi’s role was to lead the vision and direction of the programme whilst ensuring effective programme management and strong partnerships across a Consortium of delivery partners.

Susi has more than twenty years’ experience in the international development and humanitarian sectors. She has specialised in strategy development, complex programme and operations management, institutional funding, financial management and team leadership.

Susi’s thematic knowledge is varied across poverty and inequality reduction. Between 2012 and 2021, she led the international programme divisions within the Senior Management Teams at Fight for Peace and Y Care International, focused on youth violence prevention and youth economic empowerment respectively. From 2009 to 2012, Susi was Country Programme Director for HelpAge International in Colombia. She established their national programme, which focused on fulfilling the rights of older people affected by the civil conflict. Before that, Susi started her career working in a variety of programme support and funding roles at Oxfam GB.

Susi has a Master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh in Spanish and European History.
