Join the conversation: Share your stories of change

The Spotlight Initiative is the world’s largest targeted effort to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

We invite you to share your views on the most significant change brought about by the Spotlight Initiative in your country or globally. Your insights will contribute to a global thematic assessment of the initiative.

You do not need to be a formal partner with the Spotlight Initiative. We are interested in hearing from anyone who is familiar with the work of the Spotlight Initiative and may have some reflections to share on one or more of the themes we are exploring.

Online story collection

The first opportunity to share your stories of change is through an online story collection exercise. We would like to hear your reflections and perceptions on any observed changes that the Spotlight Initiative may have contributed to ending violence against women and girls. Stories can be both positive and negative.

To participate, simply click on the Story Collection Form link: https://ee.kobotoolbox.org/x/PiKcqeaO

The form should take around 10 - 20 minutes to complete and you will find instructions and guidance on how to complete it within the form itself. We kindly request you to submit your stories by Friday 11th August to ensure your voice is heard.

Moderated discussion on SHINE platform

The second opportunity is through a moderated online discussion forum hosted by members of the SDDirect thematic assessment team. This discussion will be live in September for three weeks. More details will be shared on these platforms in the coming weeks.

About the global thematic assessment

Spotlight Initiative has partnered with Social Development Direct (SDDirect) to conduct a global thematic assessment grounded in feminist and anti-colonial research principles. The assessment seeks to listen to diverse voices of civil society, maximising participation of women’s rights, and grassroots groups and activists who have either had direct engagement with the Spotlight Initiative as well as those who are contributing to ending Violence against Women and Girls in other ways.

The Assessment focuses on three key themes:

  • the meaningful engagement of civil society
  • the implementation of the commitment to ‘leave no one behind’ (LNOB)
  • support for strengthening women’s movements and cross movement building.

Central to our approach is to create multiple ways for people to engage in and contribute to the assessment across a range of geographies and contexts. Engagement is happening in person through the ten country and regional case studies, and we would also like to offer the opportunity for others to engage virtually in the two ways mentioned above – the online story collection and the moderated discussion on the SHINE platform.

Thank you!

Thank you in advance for your valuable contributions. We are really look forward to reading your stories and insights on the impact of the Spotlight Initiative in ending violence against women and girls.

If you have any challenges with the form please do reach out to Alix Clark on the SDDirect Thematic Assessment team, alix.clark@sddirect.org.uk.
