Andrea is a Principal Consultant in the safeguarding team at SDDirect. With a background in social care and child protection, Andrea brings more than ten years’ experience providing technical assistance, investigation, training and capacity building, policy development and strengthening, and institutional learning. She has a Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan in the USA and has since worked across the UK, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa region.
Andrea has extensive experience providing guidance and support to organisations and programmes on human centred safeguarding mechanisms, practices, and procedures to reduce the risk for children in education and non-educational environments. Andrea is Safeguarding Lead onthe Girls Education Challenge, responsible for building the capacity of projects to ensure compliance with FCDO safeguarding standards. She also supported the FCDO PLANE education project in Nigeria to set up safeguarding standards in the inception stage. Andrea was previously the Regional Safeguarding Manager at the British Council, and also held roles as National Training and Development Manager at the Church of England and also Head of Safeguarding for the Diocese in Europe. She was appointed to the Anglican Communion Global Safe Church Commission to developsafeguarding and protection standards across national church institutions and building organisational safeguarding capacities in developing countries.
Andrea brings expertise in child protection auditing, compliance, mainstreaming and MEL in educational and non-educational contexts. She engages in programmes across their life cycle and has led safeguarding development teams at an international level.
In her spare time Andrea enjoys watching documentaries, eating ice cream and shopping.
