SDDirect was contracted by the Danish Government to produce a Guidance Note to support the rollout and implementation of their new National Action Plan (2021-2025) to advance United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. The guidance covers:

  • Preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV)

  • Increasing women’s grassroots participation in peacebuilding and security interventions

  • Increasing Danish women’s participation as security actors in peacekeeping missions

  • Increasing Denmark’s influence and advocacy in the field of WPS globally

This guidance takes a step-by-step operational approach. It also includes a framework for identifying and dismantling the barriers to women’s participation in peace and security efforts, including preventing and responding to violence against them. This framework was informed by interviews with women working in Danish peace and security efforts, and previous research including interviews with women working on grassroots peacebuilding in Yemen. The guidance has been rolled out across the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence and National Police.
